Scientific Advisory Committee

The Magellan Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) advises the Magellan Council on technical issues and serves as the coordinating body for instrument development. SAC representatives are designated by the Magellan Consortium institutions. There are three members from Carnegie, two from Harvard, and one from each of the other partners. The Magellan Project Scientist will be an additional representative if not already designated a representative.

The SAC Chair is chosen by majority vote of the SAC representatives. If the Chair has not been designated by his/her member institution, then the Chair serves as a nonvoting representative.

Meetings

Face-to-face meetings are held once per year (formerly twice per year), usually at the Santa Barbara Street campus of Carnegie Observatories. A record of agendas and presentations is at the SAC Meeting records link at left.
